Description:Pluribus is seeking a Cultural Advisor to conduct analyses of daily open-source media originating from Pakistan and the AF/PAK region pertaining to USCENTCOM policies. Regular duties involve the daily analysis and assessment of the Pakistan and AF /PAK region events, providing the appropriate cultural context and recommending strategic responses. The Advisor will also employ predictive analysis to identify political, social and economic trends in the region prior to and during their emergence as well as advising the department leadership on activities in the assigned region. Additionally, the Cultural Advisor will provide liaison to coordinate media assessments and analyses, providing daily, weekly, and monthly briefs to key members of the USCENTCOM staff. In-depth familiarity in the Urdu language, cultures, economics, history, and societal/ethnic/tribal aspects of Pakistan are required. This position will enjoy wide latitude of action requiring enormous creativity.
Duties:Essential job duties: • Conduct analyses of daily open-source media (print radio, video and/or Internet) originating from Pakistan and the AF/PAK region to gauge political and public sentiment as it pertains to USCENTCOM policies. • Conduct research and analysis of Pakistani and AF/PAK issues relevant to strategic effects planning, including review of all available open source media and web data, polls, blogs, and academic and various information sources in Urdu. • Conduct real-time news monitoring and assessment of Pakistani, AF/PAK and international media. • Use predictive analysis to identify trends in the media space in Pakistan as they begin to emerge. • Track key communicators to map influence of each within the media space. • Track penetration and resonance of quotes and statements to measure viral effectiveness of themes and messages over time. • Provide liaison to reside at USCENTCOM to coordinate media assessment and analysis and provide daily, weekly, and monthly briefs to key members of USCENTCOM staff. • Provide notes, proposals, and information papers pertaining to assessments of regional and national political sentiment. • Attend Effects Synchronization Committees, Operational Planning Team meetings, working groups, and any other meetings that may require media assessment and predictive analysis. Additional job duties: • Provide feedback to management regarding possible problems or areas of improvement • Make recommendations to implement improved processes • Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:• Bachelors Degree in International Relations, politics, Government, or communications and ten years of relevant experience in academia, journalism, or strategic communications OR • Masters Degree in International Relations, Politics, Government, or Communications and five years of relevant experience in academia, journalism, or strategic communications OR • Doctoral Degree in International Relations, Politics, Government, or Communications and two years of relevant experience in academia, journalism, or strategic communications • Able to demonstrate in depth familiarity with the Urdu language, and cultures, economics, history, societal/ethnic/tribal aspects ofPakistan. • Three or more years of living experience in Pakistan is preferred • Prior experience in government communications position desirable. (E.g., public affairs, speech writer, congressional staff) • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government SECRET security clearance (eligible for TOP SECRET with SCI indoctrination) • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills • Ability to organize and prioritize work • Ability to work in a multi-tasked environment • Prior experience with office telephone systems and Microsoft Office Suite
